Primary Function – Works 20 hrs/week in a regular permanent schedule. Provides speech-language pathology patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate within the guidelines designated by the department and the Delaware Valley policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employees supervisor.
Based on programmatic need and licensure requirements may be required to provide inpatient/outpatient coverage at various locations associated with Nemours.
Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
Demonstrates proficiency in the care of neonates as required by assignment.
Able to provide speech-language pathology services to a variety of patient types with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate mentorship as needed.
Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member. Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy.
Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
Completes all mandatory training which may include, but not limited to safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR and program specific respiratory training.
Participates in triage and coverage planning as necessary to meet patient care and departmental needs.
When required by assignment, participates in weekend/holiday inpatient coverage rotation, including checking the code blue cart per guideline #7980.GL.24.

Participates in conflict identification and resolution.
Works cooperatively on multidisciplinary, single discipline, program specific and specialty teams.
Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment.
Professional Development:
Level I and II:
Independently seeks to expand clinical knowledge and evidenced based practice through literature reviews, inservices, courses and mentorships.
Level III and IV:
Reviews new clinical tools, reviews discipline specific competencies and provides input on new treatment intervention strategies to ensure evidenced-based and current practices.
Generates and disseminates clinical evidence based knowledge within specialty area on a national and regional level.
Prepare and submit abstracts for poster, platform and leads programming for national and regional conferences related to specialty area. Serve on professional association committees.
Leads and attends speech-language pathology meetings as scheduled.
Work hours: this is a 20 hour/week position with a weekend component.
Education, Area of Study, Training and Experience:
A. Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology or its equivalent from an ASHA accredited university B. Familiarity with speech and language development, deviation, and disorders. Familiarity with assessment scales and instruments, techniques of assessment and intervention with pediatric populations.
C. Clinical internship in pediatrics preferred
D. Experience with physically and or mentally challenged populations preferred.
E. Strong written and verbal communication skills .
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
A. Will need to be licensed in the following states: DE.
B. Hold ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), or in process of applying for ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology.
C. CPR certification (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) within 6 months of date of hire.
D. Member of professional specialty organizations (ASHA, Delaware Speech and Hearing Association) preferred.
Physical demands are moderately heavy, requiring the ability to lift and/or carry approximately 50 lbs., transfers, pushing wheelchairs, and moving large equipment. Required ability to push or pull up to 150 lbs.”
